Report on the Endometriosis Foundation of America Annual Conference

February 28 – March 1 New York

“What your mother should know and your doctor even better”

On February 28 March 1, ISGE’s Executive Director Paula Simons and ISGE’s Medical Director Bruno J van Herendael did travel to New York to assist at the annual conference of the Endometriosis Foundation of America organized by the Endometriosis Foundation of America, Northwell Health Obstet & Gynecol , Lenox Hill Hospital and the SECKIN MD Endometriosis Center.

Day 1

Day one was dedicated to the Endometriosis awareness. The topic I was ask to deal with was “Reproductive Justice and Endometriosis: Discrepancies Through Cultures” I did have the support for the lecture by our ISGE members: Alfonso Rossetti, Emmanuel Nzau Ngoma, Bhaskar Goolab, Giuseppe Florio and Linda Tebache. We did bring emphasis on the fact that in the West we do already know the problems since years but we fail to bring the awareness to the rest of the world and what are the reasons. We insisted on the use of Endometriosis apps. Several scientists did describe the progress both on the ethical and scientific fields. Their problems start with the fact that with the new government in the USA several of projects of fundamental research depending on federal funds are on hold for the moment. Our ISGE Board member Ceana Nezhat did get the Foundation Award 2025 and did talk on “Adolescent Endometriosis, a call to action on early detection” Tamer Seçkin, ISGE’s treasurer, did host the faculty in the Metropolitan Club for a dinner. Ceana Nezhat and Tamer did discuss the necessity to join forces between the Endo March and the Endometriosis Foundation and will discuss further on the practical aspects during Ceana’s conference at the end of March.

Day 2

Day two was dedicated to endometriosis surgery with as first speaker one of our previous presidents Harry Reich. A remarkable lecture on anatomy was given on video by Shaheen Khazali. Mario Malzoni, one of our live members, did intervene on bowel endometriosis. Michel Canis on video did bring a very scientifically sustained video lecture on “Violence in Adolescence and its impact on the surge of endometriosis” Horace Roman did lecture on the help robotic surgery can bring in special indications of the surgery of endometriosis. Paolo Vercellini did also get the Endometriosis Foundation award 2025 and gave a video lecture on “A Neo-evolutionary Approach to the Secondary Prevention of Adenomyosis and Endometriosis” he did make the effort to stay online to answer lots of questions. Far Nezhat did highlight the oncogenic potential of endometriosis. The meeting ended with Tamer hosting the faculty at his home where one has a beautiful vista of the statue of liberty over the bay.
