

Professor Omer Devaja MD, MSc, PhD, MRCOG
BIO:
I was born and completed my whole undergraduate education and MSc in Novi Sad Yugoslavia. I did my Postgraduate studies: PhD and Subspecialty Training in Gynaecological Oncology in St Thomas’s Hospital London UK. I worked in Hospitals in South East of England for 5 years before getting permanent post as a consultant in West Kent Cancer Centre, in Maidstone, UK.
I have more than 20-year experience in endoscopic surgery, ranging from diagnostic procedures to most complex Oncological surgery. I have teaching training research and managerial experience, required to be the Secretary General of ISGE.

In my Cancer Centre I have initiated and developed:
Laparoscopic procedures (Laparoscopic Hysterectomy, Laparoscopic Omentectomy, Laparoscopic Lymphadenectomy and Radical Laparoscopic Hysterectomy). This have considerably improved patient’s recovery time, postoperative morbidity and in-patient stay.
I extensively researched and published on Sentinel Lymph Node Detection (SLND) in vulval, cervical carcinoma and endometrial carcinoma and introduced this procedure in to the clinical practice of our Cancer Centre.
I Introduced Fertility sparing surgery for cervical carcinoma.
Established Gynae-oncology Subspecialty training programme, as a Training Programme Director (TPD), and trained 14 Sub Speciality Fellows.
I set up robotic programme in Maidstone Hospital and introducing robotic surgery in Gynaecological Oncology in my centre.
I regularly organise educational meetings and courses mainly in the field of endoscopic surgery.
I was director of Laparoscopic Gynaecology Courses in International Minimal Access Centre for Surgery Maidstone (IMACS) UK 2014 – 2018, and Director for Gynae Oncology Courses for Olympus UK during 2018 - 2020 and member of educational advisory board
I am Clinical director for Specialised Surgeries Directorate in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust from 2018 to date’
I have published more than 50 scientific papers, written and edited two books, and 10 chapters in the field of gynaecological oncology and endoscopic surgery. I am member of editorial board in three peer reviewed journals including Trocar. I gave more than 100 invited lectures, presented my research at national and international meetings as oral and poster presentations. I organised more than 50 courses in endoscopic surgery all over the world.
If elected as Secretary General I have energy, Ideas and desire to promote endoscopic and robotic surgery in Gynaecology and Gynae Oncology through ISGE. Bring more countries and members to our society. I enjoy being a member of ISGE family and would like to dedicate more time to teaching especially in countries where our experience and knowledge can make a difference.
