Anneli Linnamägi, MD, was born on May 25, 1978, in Estonia. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Tartu University in 2002 and completed her specialization as an obstetrician and gynecologist in 2012. In 2013, she began her career in Finland at Seinäjoki Central Hospital as a general obstetrician and gynecologist. Since November 2020, she has served as the Chief of the Department of Gynecological Surgery.

Dr. Linnamägi is a highly experienced, high-volume minimally invasive gynecological surgeon. She holds several advanced certifications, including Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgeon – Level 2 (The European Academy of Gynecological Surgery), Neuropelveology Level 2 (ISoN), and Master in Surgical Management of Deep Endometriosis (MIS Academy). Under her leadership, her hospital has pioneered innovative surgical techniques in Finland, being the first to introduce laparoscopic pectopexy and vNOTES surgeries.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Linnamägi is active in several professional societies. She joined the Board of ISGE in early 2021 and assumed the role of Vice President in May 2023. She is passionate about teaching and mentoring, regularly conducting training sessions at local, national, and international levels. She has mentored laparoscopic simulation training in her own hospital, in courses organized by the Finnish Society of Gynecological Surgery, for the GESEA program and ISGE training events. She has founded the ISGE Teachers Board to unite and support the world’s leading educators in gynecological surgery.

Dr. Linnamägi is a passionate advocate for professionalism, emphasizing the importance of maturity and responsibility in the diverse roles that gynecological surgeons must embody each day: doctor, colleague, teacher, and lifelong learner. She champions continuous growth, innovation, and the courage to challenge outdated traditions that no longer serve society. Furthermore, she is committed to fostering healthier workplace environments that encourage a better work-life balance while addressing hidden forms of violence and toxicity that can undermine productivity and well-being.

Beyond her medical career, Dr. Linnamägi has been a steadfast advocate against violence and inequality since her high school years. She draws attention to persistent forms of violence that gynecologists often encounter, such as sexual violence—particularly in conflict zones—female genital mutilation, and the stigmatization of menstruation, all of which continue to inflict physical and psychological harm on women worldwide. She also highlights educational inequalities faced by women, including forced child marriages and restrictions on access to education.

Her greatest source of strength is her family—her husband and their two sons—whose unwavering support has been the foundation of her career. Throughout the years, her family has provided not only emotional support but also practical assistance, allowing her to dedicate herself fully to her profession. Their understanding, patience, and continuous motivation have been a source of inspiration, driving her to pursue excellence in every aspect of her work.
